Chicago-based singer, composer, and clarinetist Angel Bat Dawid is releasing a collaborative LP with Antwerp-based baritone saxophone player and theater performer Hanne De Backer and Danish, Oslo-based saxophonist and composer Signe Emmeluth. The album, titled Angel Bat Dawid, Hanne De Backer, and Signe Emmeluth, is out April 30 as part of Smalltown Supersound’s Actions for Free Jazz series. Hear an excerpt below.
Just 500 physical copies of Angel Bat Dawid, Hanne De Backer, and Signe Emmeluth will be made available. The album documents a concert that the trio performed at Summer Bummer Festival in Antwerp on August 24, 2019, recorded by Koen Vandenhoudt. The three musicians met for the first time just hours before taking the stage.
Last year, Angel Bat Dawid and Tha Brothahood released LIVE, which they recorded in November 2019 at Haus der Berliner Festspiele during JazzFest Berlin. The live album features music from Dawid’s excellent 2019 album The Oracle.
