The nominations for the 2021 Golden Globe Awards have been announced. In the Best Score Motion Picture category, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross were nominated twice, for their work on Mank and Soul, the latter with Jon Baptiste. For their roles in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman were nominated in the Best Actress/Actor in a Motion Picture Drama categories, respectively. Riz Ahmed was nominated in Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama for Sound of Metal.
Other nominees in the Best Score Motion Picture category are Alexandre Desplat (The Midnight Sky), Ludwig Göransson (Tenet), and James Newton Howard (News of the World). Nominees in the Best Song Motion Picture category were for songs from The United States vs. Billie Holiday (“Tigress & Tweed”), Judas and the Black Messiah (“Fight for You”), The Trial of the Chicago 7 (“Hear My Voice”), The Life Ahead (“Io Sì (Seen)”), One Night in Miami… (“Speak Now”). Kate Hudson picked up one nod (Best Actress – Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy) for her role in Sia’s film Music, while the film itself is up for Best Motion picture – Musical/Comedy. This year’s Golden Globes take place on February 28—initially scheduled for January but postponed due to COVID-19—and will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. They’ll air live from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California from 8-11 p.m. Eastern on NBC.
Elton John and his songwriting partner Bernie Taupin won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song last year, while Taron Egerton won Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for his performance in Rocketman. Hildur Guðnadóttir won Best Original Score for her work on Joker.
