For S/S 2019 Document did what Document does, that is to get the most decorated contributors to fill their 560 pages––making it practically the most ambitious of biannuals, a true must-be for the most in-demand-types. That’s a lot of pressure at the press, where does one start? “In an age in which the internet can simultaneously give marginalized voices a platform and disproportionately amplify those who just want to make noise, thoughtful creation and consumption of media has never been more essential. Of course, ways of seeing and the politics of visibility extend far beyond media to the world around us,” writes editor-in-chief Nick Vogelson of issue 14. Channeling that thought into printed action: six covers (below) give a glimpse of the publication’s latest with welcomed visuals from Mario Sorrenti to David Sims to Ryan McGinley from Sarah Richardson to Kim Jones (of course, there are others). Inside (below, too), it’s more of the same and in the best way possible: Brett Lloyd and Camille Bidault Waddington, Liz Johnson Artur and Jodie Barnes, Danielle Neu and Alice Goddard to name names shoot fashion for the magazine. It would be overwhelmingly visual if not for words exchanged by important minds such as critics Parul Sehgal and Teju Cole of the New York Times, the legendary John Waters and writer Edmund White, Kim Jones and Jony Ive of Apple, Alyx‘s Matthew Williams and Sita Abellan, and again, more.
