This Year’s Emmy Nominees, Ranked by Menswear

If one thing was clear when the Television Academy announced this year’s Primetime Emmys nominees on Tuesday, it’s that there have never been more shows on television. In the GQ world, this also means there’s never been such a variety of menswear on television.

We had to wonder: of all the series nominees, which most advanced the men’s fashion agenda? With all due respect to The White Lotus’s bleak touristwear and Stranger Things’s retro grooming, here are our top five picks, in reverse order:

Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, and Larry Owens on Abbott Elementary.Temma Hankin/ABC

    5. Abbott Elementary (ABC) — Nominated for Best Comedy Series

As anyone who’s ever worked with K-12 students knows, sneakerheads make beloved teachers. Quinta Brunson’s Abbott Elementary, which takes place at a fictional public elementary school in Philadelphia, makes subtle references to the social cache that comes with wearing cool kicks: for example, in one episode, low-key sneakerhead teacher Jacob (Chris Perfetti) enlists his high-key sneakerhead boyfriend Zach (Larry Owens) to investigate the shoe prints behind “desking,” a new TikTok challenge-turned-disruptive school-wide phenomenon wherein students to jump on top of the desks when teachers’ backs are turned. (The culprit? A pint-sized pair of Nike Son Of Force Lows.)
